How do I winterize a hot tub?

As fall approaches and the weather gets cooler, some hot tub owners will start thinking of closing their hot tubs for the winter. While most people enjoy their spas year round, there is a small group that needs to winterize their spas. Winterizing a hot tub can be a lot of work. If not done properly, freezing water can cause severe damage to the spa. So, the key is to get all of the water out of the plumbing!

The first step in the winterizing process is to disconnect the power and drain the water. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for this step. Remove any additional water from the foot-well of the spa using a Shop-Vac.

Next, disconnect the plumbing unions going to the front of the pump(s). Depending on model your spa, it may have 3 or more pumps. Be careful, because the unions will all have O-rings in them … Read the rest

Thank You

Hello,

Finally!

Many thanks to all the people who have worked so hard in getting this program up and running…  For a while it seemed it wasn’t meant to be. Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Tornados, Forest Fires in the Dismal Swamp, and a series of 3 funerals have all caused numerous hardships and delays. Thanks to our dedicated staff of highly trained professionals, we have worked through all the hardship. Due to anonymity I can’t mention names, but they know who they are and Thanks.

The last delay was the funeral of my friend of 33 years. It saddens me deeply, but at the same time makes me very angry. He killed himself last Saturday. Seems it all stemmed from financial difficulties (IRS,) caused by misinformation given by paid experts in the field of estate planning and tax code. People who take money give advice but have no cares or responsibility for … Read the rest

“What’s the Best Water Temperature for My Spa?”

Spas provide an excellent method for relaxation.  Although, The Spa Guy recommends following general safety rules.

One of the most important rules regards maintaining the proper temperature of the water in your spa, and The Spa Guy always recommends a thermometer for your spa to avoid temperature levels that can be potentially dangerous to individuals using the spa.

The Spa Guy insists the temperature of the water in your spa never exceed 104° degrees Fahrenheit, (40° degrees Celsius).  Being immersed in water above 104° degrees Fahrenheit, (particularly for an extended period of time), can result in serious heat-related health issues.

Another consideration to bear in mind regarding the water temperature in your spa pertains to children.  Since children don’t adapt to heat as well as adults, if children are going to be in the spa the water temperature should be lowered to 102° degrees Fahrenheit to keep them safe.

“Choosing the Best Spa for Your Needs”

The Spa Guy is frequently asked, “What’s the best spa for me?”

That depends on a number of things.

First, ask yourself the following questions.

Why are you purchasing a spa?  Is the spa going to be used more for recreation, or is the purchase for therapeutic reasons?  If the answer is for therapeutic reasons the more jets the spa has, the better.

The next step in qualifying yourself for what spa to purchase regards how much space do you have in the area where you are planning to install it.  If installing the spa inside,  (which The Spa Guy does not recommend), you will be limited to the size of the opening.  When installing a spa outside you are limited only by the amount of area you have where the spa will sit.

In addition, it is often easier to consider how many people will usually be using the … Read the rest
